Another good performance from Abbots which bodes well for next season. They might have lost, but they made things very difficult for Omonia, and at the three quarters stage, the score was level at 1-1.
Abbots arrived at the game with only one sub, but after only ten minutes Ben was injured and had to come off. That left no subs, whereas Omonia seemed to have plenty.
The team carried on with the same formation as the St.Albans game with a midfield that fluctuated between two and five, and an attack that fluctuated between one and four. Max played in an attacking midfield role which always seems to suit him, with Matthew S and Peter playing a defensive midfield role. They had to work hard right through the game, and they did this very well and very successfully. Everyone worked well, and one of the most pleasing aspects of the game was that even when they were under pressure, they still played sensible balls rather than just hoofing it anywhere.
On this showing, if they continue to play like this next season, and with a few new players, Abbots will be very difficult to break down, and should do well.
The goal for Abbots came 19 minutes into the second half when they were 1-0 down. Abbots were awarded a free kick which Mark took from wide out on the right. He floated in an excellent cross which
Ollie headed into the goal. The two Omonia goals which followed 5 and 9 minutes after this Omonia were very lucky to get for reasons that I won’t go into. Suffice is to say that the score-line could very easily have ended at 1-1.
The man of the match award went to
Peter. His game was very disciplined, and he was always there to drop back into defence when Reece came forward. Overall he had a great game, as did many other.
