After four months, and six matches without a win, Steve ‘Churchill’ Tobin had had enough. He was tired of the miserable weather and the sub-standard performances from a team he and Dan ‘Winston’ Perman knew was so much better than recent results had suggested. Gathering the boys around him, and their parents, he delivered a rousing Valentine Day’s speech that would have put Rafa Benitez out of a job and won Steve the next general election as the leader of Abbots Reds – had it been screened on national television. It was a masterful display of motivational speaking that deserved to be heard by millions. We were just thrilled that we and the little Reds got to hear it in person. The impact was as instant as it was magical and the Reds produced their finest display of the season to beat a competitive Omonia with a goal from Nathan. All eight boys played magnificently – none more so than a brilliant Brad, the son of Churchill himself. Well done to Daniel, Jack, Tom, Nathan, Bradley, Sam, Louis and Alex.
